I read it several years ago and still find myself thinking about it. If you haven't already check out the music album Haunted by a singer named Poe. She is the sister of the author and much of the album was influenced by the book. It acts as a sort of soundtrack I LOVE historical fiction, some of the best I've read are: All the Light We Cannot See, Memoirs of a Geisha, City of Thieves, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, The Book Thief. Read it in one afternoon waiting for my then girlfriend to get off work at a hotel. Read it in the parking lot on a beautiful day and day dreamt about the futility of our existence and the dark humor behind it What is the best Book you've ever read? 0 comments. share. save. hide. report. 100% Upvoted. . The reason people read Wodehouse is because of the musicality of his language, and his sanguine humour. His writing is what draws readers. The abridged version is not comedic at all. For me, the books I consider perfect are Les Miserables, Don Quixote, Watership Down and The Iliad (there's bound to be more but for the time being these are the ones that pop into my head). The Count of Monte Cristo. Alexandre Dumas. Someone on Reddit describes The Count of Monte Cristo as medieval Batman, and we think that's fairly accurate, though revenge plays a much larger role in this book than it ever did for The Dark Knight. Quite possibly the best biography you'll ever read. Epic in scale — about 3,000 pages split over 3 volumes — Manchester takes you on an enjoyable and edifying ride through Winston Churchill's legendary life. It's hard to call any biography a page-turner, since you know what happens, but The Last Lion comes awfully close. Vonnegut was a scout for the front lines and was actually captured and so his experience in the wake of this tragedy seems to emanate luminously from the book through the eyes of Billy Pilgrim, possibly one of the the greatest names ever for a character in a novel.
